Mark Cornes has been selected as the Conservative candidate in the Stretford and Urmston constituency.
The 41-year-old businessman, who was born at Trafford General and has lived in Urmston since childhood, shared his focus on supporting local people’s priorities: lobbying for better health services, more police resources and supporting local businesses.
Mark campaigned locally against the Labour Council's crazy anti-car proposals to block off roads across Urmston which would stop commuters, families and emergency services in their tracks. Causing traffic chaos and longer journey times will lead to us breathing in more pollution. Mark's survey attracted hundreds of residents to sign up and 92% rejected the official consultation on the proposals and forced the Labour council to cancel the plans.
He said:
“Our Plan for Stretford and Urmston reflects the local priorities people talk to me about every day.
“I am passionate about local health services. The same services which are so close to my heart; from saving my life as a baby to life saving weekly blood transfusions my own mother receives at our local hospital.
“It’s vital that our local schools are supported to ensure the best opportunities for future generations. It’s also crucial that we get the policing resources we need. I am also a champion of local businesses and high streets and, if elected, would work with the government to grow our town centres and get our high streets thriving.”
Mark enjoys cooking, exploring the independent bars and restaurants Stretford and Urmston has to offer, and walks with his dog in Stretford and Urmston’s many precious green spaces.
“I believe it is time for a fresh start in Stretford and Urmston, which is why I’m standing for the Conservatives here. COVID, the cost of living and Putin’s war in Ukraine has meant difficult choices for everyone. Now, more than ever, it is imperative we stick to the plan that is working. The plan which only the Conservatives can deliver.”
“Now the economy is turning a corner, inflation is back to normal levels and wages have risen for the past ten months. We need to secure our economic future, invest to support businesses that create more jobs and improve our livelihoods. The Conservatives can show the people in our community we have that plan and that strength of character to make Stretford and Urmston an even greater place to live, work and raise a family.”
“So, the choice is clear. Stick with the plan by choosing bold action for a safer, more secure and more prosperous future with Rishi Sunak, or go back to square one with Keir Starmer and the same old Labour."
