Trafford Council and Mosscare St Vincent's Housing have been holding consultation events on a proposal for a new scheme on Shawe Road car park in Flixton. The new scheme would provide 12 units of accommodation for homeless people with a variety of needs for long and short-term stays.
Local campaigner Paul Lally from North Trafford Conservatives said “There was a lot of support from local residents for the idea of accommodation for homeless people who are ready to continue working towards securing permanent accommodation. Local residents however are not supportive of this location on Shawe Road being developed and are concerned that no other locations have been presented to residents as potential alternative locations.
“The site is currently used for parking by Trafford FC and their supporters and local Conservatives are in agreement with local residents who do not want the site to be developed. This is due to the potential impact it will have on the local community and the impact reduced parking will have on the football club, schools and local residents who simply want to exercise or walk their dogs on the surrounding fields.
“Residents should also be aware that a planning application for the development is imminent as building work is set to commence in summer 2023. Local Conservatives will provide further information on how to comment on the planning application once it has been submitted to Trafford Council.”
