In January 2023 Labour councillors on Trafford Council voted to start the process of potentially establishing a Temporary Stopping Place for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people on Boyer Street in Stretford.
A Temporary Stopping Place is a facility that is made available when Gypsies or Travellers visit a community. Often facilities such as waste bins or portable toilets are provided, paid for by the taxpayer.
A spokesperson for North Trafford Local Conservatives said “Local Conservatives had concerns about Boyer Street potentially being used a Temporary Stopping Place for the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities and wanted to know what residents thought about the proposals by creating a resident’s survey on the plan.
“A total of 178 responses were received to the survey, of which 84% of respondents replied that they weren’t already aware of the proposals and 79% of respondents replied that they didn’t think that the location was suitable for the site.
“North Trafford Local Conservatives will be sharing the results with Labour-led Trafford Council and we hope that Labour will listen to the voice of local residents.”
