Paul Lally, Conservative candidate in the Bucklow-St. Martins By-Election has welcomed the news that Trafford Council is receiving an additional £2,916,149 to support Trafford residents with the cost of living in 2023/24. The funding from the Conservative Government is the Household Support Grant fund for Trafford and is to be used to provide support to households, who would otherwise struggle to buy food or pay essential utility bills or meet other essential living costs or housing costs.
The Conservative Government has invested over £2 billion into the fund over the last two years, with almost £800 million already paid to households with children to ease the cost of living between October 2021 and March 2023.
Thousands of North Trafford residents will also be informed in October 2023 that they qualify for the Warm Home Discount. The automatic one-off £150 payment will help eligible, low-income customers pay their energy bills over the winter.
Commenting on the news, Paul Lally said “Nearly three million pounds of Conservative Government funding to help with the cost of living is very welcome news for residents in Partington, Carrington, Sale West and across North Trafford.
“Hopefully, the Labour-run Trafford Council can come up with some innovative and locally focused uses of the additional money to ensure support is delivered to those families and those needing extra help in difficult times.”
