A priority for Conservative candidate in the Stretford and Urmston by-election, Emily Carter-Kandola is to work with the government and local businesses to create new jobs, attract new businesses and grow the local economy. Emily will be keen to ensure that the £5.8 million of investment from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund will deliver skills, training and jobs in the constituency. 310 young people in Stretford and Urmston have started a job under the Kickstart Scheme, and Emily will help even more.
Regarding the government’s recent decision to increase the living wage, Emily said “From 1 April 2023, the National Living Wage will increase by 9.7 per cent to £10.42 an hour for workers aged 23 and over. This represents an increase of over £1,600 to the annual earnings of a full-time worker on the National Living Wage and is expected to benefit over 2 million low paid workers, including those in Stretford and Urmston.”
